From Pony to IONIQ 5: Hyundai's 100 Million Journey

In just 57 years, Hyundai Motor Company has blazed a trail through the automotive world, reaching an incredible 100 million vehicles produced globally. This lightning-fast ascent to the top ranks of car manufacturers showcases Hyundai's relentless drive for excellence. The company's Ulsan Plant in Korea became the backdrop for a momentous celebration, marking this historic achievement with pride and anticipation for the road ahead.

To honour this accomplishment, Hyundai delivered its 100 millionth and first vehicle, an IONIQ 5, directly to a customer at the Ulsan Plant's shipping centre. The ceremony featured a display celebrating "100 million and 1," symbolizing Hyundai's commitment to continuous progress.

Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, attributed this milestone to customer support and the company's dedication to innovation. "This achievement was possible thanks to our customers around the world who have chosen and supported Hyundai Motor since the very beginning," Chang stated.

Ulsan Plant's Historical Significance and Future Role

The Ulsan Plant, operational since 1968, has played a crucial role in developing Korea's automobile industry. It produced the country's first mass-produced model, the Pony, in 1975. Today, the plant is pivotal in Hyundai's electrification efforts, with plans for a dedicated electric vehicle facility on site.

Dong Seock Lee, President and Head of Domestic Productions, emphasized that this milestone represents the beginning of a new era focused on electrification. Hyundai's growth has been driven by new brands such as Genesis and N, along with the introduction of electric vehicles like the IONIQ 5.

Hyundai's global expansion includes production sites in Turkey, India, the United States, and the Czech Republic. The company previously surpassed the 50 million vehicle mark in 2013, demonstrating its rapid growth in the industry.

Looking ahead, Hyundai is investing in technological advancements through initiatives like the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center in Singapore, which focuses on artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart factories. The company is also developing the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, reflecting its vision for future manufacturing.

As Hyundai celebrates this milestone, it continues to innovate and expand, building on its commitment to excellence in the automotive industry. For more information about Hyundai's latest models and innovations, visit us at Georgetown Hyundai today.
